Volunteers

One parent per family is required to volunteer 4 half meets. Below are a list of positions and descriptions. We will open the sign up calendar as the meet dates grow near.  We greatly appreciate all of our families, the meets can not run without them!

Volunteer Positions:

Floater -This position is our “on call” person. If anyone does not show up for his/her position, you will be asked to fill in. If you are not needed, you still get credit for working a half meet. You must be willing to work any position. Floater works either 1st or 2nd half of meet.

Computer operator- The Computer Operator inputs the results from each event as reflected on the completed Lane Timer Sheets into the computer. They shall also record any DQs, including the reason for the DQ. The computer operator sends final meet results to opponent. They should not Score the events until both team's entries and results have been imported into the computer. Computer Operator works either 1st or 2nd half of meet.

Bull Pen Volunteer- This person is in charge of supervising the swimmers who are 10 years old and under in the designated bull pen area (for home meets it’s under the balcony near the restrooms). The swimmer will be required to report to the bull pen about 6 events before their event. The volunteer is responsible for making sure the swimmers are in the correct order and lane for their event.  When it’s time for the swimmers to move to the end of the pool a Coach will walk them to the pool area. A Bull Pen Volunteer works the 1st half of meet or 2nd half.

Relay parent- This person is only needed 4 events before a 10 and under boys relay event. They make sure that the boys are there for their particular event and make sure they get to the correct lane and side of the pool to be lined up for their event. Relay parent works entire meet.

Timers- We need two timers per lane of the pool for our lanes. One of the timers will operate the stopwatch and the other will record the times on the lane timer worksheet. Only one watch per lane is needed. At all times, the timer must have a clear view of the race and finish line. The timer shall look at the starter’s signal and start the watch at the instant of the starting signal. The timer shall stop the watch immediately when any part of the swimmer’s body touches the solid end of the pool as defined by the USS rulebook. The second timer shall record times on the timer’s worksheet and communicate these times to the Master Recorder who shall record them on the score sheet. When the swimmer exits the pool, please double check that the correct child swam. If not, please write the swimmers name on the timer sheet. Each pair of timers is provided a stop watch, clip board, and time sheets for their lane. This position works half a meet then is replaced by relief timers for the 2nd half.

Place Judge- This position writes down which lane comes in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th! There is a place judge at a meet from both teams to determine the standings. This position is also a 1st half and 2nd half. This position is very important, it is the way the meet gets scored.

Judge recorder- The home team will supply a judge’s recorder. This person will place himself/herself behind the place judges with their own copy of the UK Judges Placing Form. When the race is finished and the judges and starter/referee have ruled on the place finishes, he/she will record the places in the appropriate block on the UK Judges Placing Form. For swimmers who have been disqualified by the starter/referee the judge’s recorder will write “DQ” in the place block for that swimmer. The judge’s recorder then passes the completed UK Judges Placing Form to the master recorder. The Judges Recorder has no say in the order of finish and should not attempt to influence the place judges on the order of finish. Judge recorder works 1st or 2nd half of meet.

Master recorder- Each team will provide at least one Master Recorder. The master recorder collects the Judges Placing Form from the Judge’s Recorder when the event is complete and all places have been recorded. The master recorder will then go to each lane and record each swimmer's time in the Time Column of the Judges Placing Form as noted by the recording timer. With all places and times recorded, the master recorder will deliver the completed Judges Placing Form to the scoring table either directly or via the runner. Each team can alternate this job for each race. Master Recorder works either 1st or 2nd half of the meet.

Ribbons- 2 ribbons volunteers are needed to place the labels on the ribbons and then file them in the swimmers file. You work a half meet then 2nd half volunteers take over for the 2nd half of meet.

Event Board- We have an event board, so you will get to play Vanna! This will be located on the Balcony. This position is needed only for the home meets. Great view! Event Board volunteer works either 1st half or 2nd half of the meet.

Concessions- We will need 3 volunteers for the 1st and 3 volunteers for the 2nd half of meet. This is only needed for the Home meets.

Gate Parent - This is a new position that Arbors has requested. We were asked not to prop the pool gate open at meets, so this person will open it as people need entry. This is a 1st or 2nd half volunteer position.

Set Up and Clean Up Crew- A lot goes into a meet. Setting up the pool, lights, concessions, PA system, etc. Set up or Take down help counts as a half of meet.

These are the positions needed to be filled for every meet! It is up to us as parents and volunteers to make this a fun and exciting season for our swimmers! Remember parents you need to work 4 halves this season,  so let’s do it!! Go Sharks!

Sincerely,

The Towne Lake Sharks
